The scientist and designer with a penchant for perfection

Andreas Papastergiou

3D Artist, Creative Lead

Andreas Papastergiou has always wavered between science and design. In the end, he opted for the world of design, where he can perfectly combine his passion for technology and aesthetics.

What career stages have you had?
I was driven by two passions from an early age: Science and design. The direct exploration of the world fascinated me just as much as the practical design and creation. After completing my master's degree in architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, my path led me to Zurich, where I joined Nightnurse International. The Archviz industry, which combines technology and art, was exactly the right place for me. Parallel to my work, I obtained an MSc in Cognitive Systems and Human-Computer Symbiosis by distance learning.

What is your personal superpower - and how do you use it?
My main strength is my ability to adapt. I observe, understand and adapt. This ability is particularly useful in the field of image creation and design, especially when it comes to incorporating the client's perspective. Another important aspect is my perfectionism - a double-edged sword that can be both a strength and a weakness. Fortunately, I have a team that keeps me in balance.

What brought you to Nightnurse?
While studying architecture, I developed a strong interest in visual storytelling and creating new worlds. This passion culminated in a thesis in which I explored architectural possibilities in a post-apocalyptic future. After graduating, the question arose as to where I could best work as a craftsman, designer and storyteller at the same time - and that's how I found my way to Nightnurse.

Which spaces or places fascinate you in particular and why?
Growing up in the suburbs of Thessaloniki, I find quiet surroundings and a leisurely pace of life particularly appealing. I admire calm spaces, clean lines and platonic shapes. Despite my preference for tranquillity, I also enjoy the intense Greek sun and swimming in the sea. I am magically drawn to strong and vibrant shades of blue - even if these are less common in Switzerland.

What is the most beautiful thing that has ever been visualized?
One look at a picture of a nebula cloud or the Andromeda galaxy is enough to inspire me. I firmly believe that true beauty lies in the real world and our job is to capture that beauty. That's why I admire the Renaissance masters and their fine craftsmanship. For me, only when a visualization perfectly captures reality can it become truly magical.

What do you love doing, when you're not working as a Nightnurse?
As the father of a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son, time is a precious commodity. What I enjoy most is spending time with my family. We try to travel to Greece several times a year to relax. When I have time for myself, I like to read, play football or spend hours discussing the big questions in life with friends.
