Revitalizing Uraniastrasse for an Attractive and Livable City Center

The City of Zurich is planning a comprehensive redesign of Uraniastrasse to enhance the livability and appeal of this central area near the historic old town and Bahnhofstrasse district. The redesign aims to significantly improve pedestrian pathways, with wider sidewalks, new green spaces, and a continuous row of trees to shape the streetscape. The goal is to transform Uraniastrasse from a traffic-dominated zone into a high-quality public space that invites people to stroll and linger, greatly enhancing the comfort for both pedestrians and cyclists.

High-quality visualization for urban planning: Thoughtful location selection and precise light adjustments create a vivid portrayal of the future Uraniastrasse.

Base Photos: Establishing a Foundation through Careful Retouching

To accurately capture the current state, we collected extensive photographic material on-site. Due to ongoing construction in the area, this material required intensive post-processing. By carefully retouching the images to remove disruptive elements, we created a neutral foundation for a clear before-and-after comparison. These refined base images served as the groundwork for future visualizations, enabling an uninterrupted contrast between the current and future states.

Detailed Models of the Future Streetscape

To realistically and convincingly depict the planned changes, we developed a high-precision 3D model of Uraniastrasse. Special attention was given to specific details such as new sidewalks, signage, and curbstones. By seamlessly combining rendering and photography, supported by techniques like camera matching and light matching, the future design blended harmoniously into the existing environment. The after-visualizations provide a vibrant and realistic portrayal of the new Uraniastrasse, giving viewers a compelling glimpse into its planned appearance.

Comprehensive Location Analysis and Light Adjustment

A crucial aspect of this project was selecting optimal viewpoints and light settings for each shot to create a cohesive and impactful atmosphere. This required in-depth location analysis both within the 3D model and on-site, as well as testing various lighting conditions at different times of day. This meticulous alignment ensured that the final visualizations are not only technically precise but also atmospherically compelling and aesthetically appealing.
