Grenchen Motorway Junction
The Grenchen motorway junction is one of the most important transport hubs along the A5 in the canton of Solothurn. Around 30,000 vehicles use it every day. During peak hours in particular, traffic regularly backs up from the exits onto the motorway, affecting traffic flow, safety and quality of life in the region.
To make the junction more efficient and safer in the long term, the Federal Roads Office FEDRO and the canton of Solothurn are carrying out a comprehensive redesign of the transport hub. The construction project will be implemented between 2029 and 2032 and includes a new bypass, several bridge structures, optimised traffic routing and a separate connection for pedestrians and cyclists.

For the communication of the project, three aerial perspectives were created, showing the future junction at different scales: from an overview of the entire project perimeter to the spatial integration of the new transport infrastructure along the Aare. This makes traffic axes, connections, bridges and the surrounding landscape readable as one coherent system.
Especially in complex infrastructure projects, visualisations provide orientation. They translate technical planning documents into clear images, make spatial relationships understandable and support a shared understanding between authorities, planning teams, political decision-makers and the public.
