The «Wassermusik» proposal by Schmid Schärer Architekten and their design team replaces the indoor pool and sports hall at the Hofmatt school campus in Meggen. A 25-metre pool, a single-court sports hall and redesigned outdoor spaces support school life. In 2026, the jury unanimously selected the scheme as the winner of the architectural competition.
We created two competition visualizations to communicate the relationship between the building, its outdoor spaces and everyday use. The exterior view places the new building within the tree-lined schoolyard: paths, seating and people going about their day show how architecture and public space work together. The interior view takes us into the pool hall, revealing its structure and the atmosphere created by daylight.
The next step is to develop the proposal into a preliminary design. A public vote on construction funding is provisionally scheduled for late 2028.
The exposed timber structure sets the rhythm of the pool hall. Daylight entering from the side and reflections on the water emphasize the depth of the space. The round window and large glazed openings connect the interior with the trees outside.
