With the continuous growth of Rotkreuz and its increasing importance as a transport hub, the need arose to rethink the existing railway station area. The current infrastructure had reached its limits both functionally and spatially: connections were partly unclear, transfers unintuitive, and public spaces fragmented. As part of an architectural competition, the goal was to develop a future-oriented center that brings mobility, mixed-use development, and quality of stay into balance.
Visualizations for competition

The challenge of the project lies in combining infrastructure, urban design, and open space into one coherent system. Different modes of transport, dense programmatic uses, and clear orientation must be addressed simultaneously without compromising the quality of the public realm.
The visualizations make movement flows, spatial hierarchies, and the use of public space understandable, revealing the interaction between architecture, landscape, and people as one cohesive experience.
Atmospheric perspectives communicate both the overall structure and specific everyday situations. The visualizations illustrate how barrier-free paths improve mobility and how transfers between train, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian routes become intuitive. At the same time, they convey the quality of a mixed-use district where living, working, and leisure naturally coexist.
Dorfmattplatz becomes legible as the urban center, while the high-rise acts as a defining counterpart to the HSLU campus. Green roofs and climate responsive outdoor spaces enhance the microclimate and contribute to the overall comfort and quality of the environment.
This creates a clear understanding of spatial relationships and a vibrant center that is both functionally convincing and atmospherically tangible.
