E-Bike City is a research project by ETH Zurich’s Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. Seven professorships are exploring how a city can prioritize cycling, micromobility and public transport while reorganizing private motor traffic.
We translated this long-term mobility vision into concrete streets and everyday situations. Image concepts, visualizations and animations make spatial effects, possible uses and trade-offs tangible enough to discuss.

Starting from the current situation, we redesigned four intersections to show how they might appear in the future. Our approach aimed to reflect diverse user perspectives and consider the needs of future road users.
We chose to combine photographs with 3D renderings to realistically embed our designs within the existing urban context and present a credible vision of the future.
In our 3D visualizations, we placed special emphasis on the realistic and detailed representation of street design elements—such as traffic lights, signage, and road markings—to create a compelling and believable vision of the future.
With E-Bike-City, we are not only creating a vision, but also a data-driven and discussion-based foundation for future mobility decisions. Our visualizations make complex urban planning and transportation scenarios tangible—for policymakers, researchers, and the general public.
In doing so, we actively contribute to shaping the transition toward climate-friendly, safe, and people-centered mobility.
