Historic Charm Meets Modern Workspaces
The south wing (Südtrakt) of Zurich’s main train station, a historic gem in the heart of Zurich, has been meticulously renovated to restore its original glory and now offers exclusive office spaces with unique character. This landmark building, which forms an important connection between the main station and the prestigious Bahnhofstrasse, combines a prime central location and excellent accessibility with historic architecture that has been revitalized through the renovation.
Restoration with a Focus on Preservation and Modernization
As part of the extensive renovation, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) emphasized the faithful restoration of the building’s original substance. From the stucco marble columns to the intricate wood paneling and decorative stucco rosettes, each detail was restored with precision and traditional materials to preserve and revive the building’s historic splendor. The facade, crafted from Uznaberg sandstone sourced from the upper Lake Zurich area, was carefully rehabilitated. Over 300 coffered ceilings, 500 stucco rosettes, and numerous ornamental sculptures – including angels, lions, and mythological figures – now shine anew.
A Unique Blend of History and Functionality
The biggest challenge was to model the intricately decorated coffered ceilings and stucco elements with great attention to detail. At the same time, the furnishings needed to be modern and functional while emphasizing the historical charm of the rooms. The selected materials and designs created a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity that is both exclusive and practical.
A Cohesive Space Concept with Attention to Detail
Through precise 3D modeling and the selection of elegant, modern designer furniture, we created a visual concept that accentuates the prestigious atmosphere of the renovated offices. The concept is further enhanced by a virtual tour, offering prospective tenants an immersive experience of the spaces and showcasing the unique blend of historic grandeur and modern comfort. The result is a cohesive concept that brings out the distinctive character of the renovated spaces – an inspiring place where history and modernity come together to create a unique work environment.
