A Case Study in Architectural Rehabilitation.
The revitalization of a historic building at a prime location in Zurich. Nightnurse Images collaborated closely with UTOREM, CSL Immobilien, architects Reto Egloff, and Paolo Lendi. The 1912 building, after extensive renovation, features retail spaces, office areas meeting the highest standards, and a luxury duplex apartment.

This project involved numerous participants, each with different perspectives and needs. Our project management skillfully facilitated a moderated process to reach consensus, harmonizing the varied views into coherent visualizations. A significant challenge was the visual reconstruction of the protected historic building, with its unique architecture, paintings, and decorative elements. Flexibility was essential due to the evolving architectural plans; many details were defined during the project and sometimes shaped by the visualizations themselves.
After gaining a thorough understanding of this highly demanding project, we identified and captured the missing visual elements of the protected historic building. We clearly defined which elements to recreate using 3D modeling and which to capture through photography. Our 3D artists and photographers visited the site to document these elements. The collected photographs were processed and integrated into 3D models, resulting in extensive, high-quality visual material showcasing the detailed interior design. Additionally, an animation and a virtual tour make the premium property impressively accessible both inside and out.
The existing rooms were not included in the architectural plans. Instead of the usual plan-based construction, we recreated the spaces in 3D using photographs. This included elements such as wall paneling, stucco ceilings in offices, corridor cabinets, and wall coverings in other rooms. Given the distinctive wood patterns, these had to be accurately replicated as well.
Notably, the historic painted tiled stove was completely reconstructed for flexibility in editing and to showcase it from different perspectives in the 360° tour, visualizations, and animation. Additional elements like the terrace railing and onion domes were also modeled.
For the building's exterior views, we combined 3D rendering with photographs. Only specific facade parts were adjusted, while others remained unchanged.
Partially using photographs was efficient and helped maintain the natural look of the historical facade, which is challenging to reproduce in 3D. The facade was cleaned via Photoshop, and combining rendering with photos required precision to ensure a seamless and unified image. For a perfect result, the 3D camera settings had to match the photographs exactly.
