ga8 – Gallusanlage 8
At Gallusanlage 8, the design by Ferdinand Heide Architects adds to Frankfurt’s high-rise cluster between the banking district and Bahnhofsviertel. An office tower rising approximately 170 meters and a residential tower of around 60 meters stand on a shared base designed to engage the public realm. Cultural spaces, planted rooftop areas and an open ground-floor zone connect the ensemble with the Wallanlagen park and the surrounding urban fabric.
For the competition entry, we developed five visualizations that communicate the project from the urban scale to its spatial experience. The series situates the ensemble in the skyline while articulating its addresses on Gallusanlage and Jürgen-Ponto-Platz and the spatial character of the multilevel lobby. The design prevailed among twelve invited teams and was awarded first prize.

A Base for the City
The shared base connects the two towers and opens the ensemble to the city. Cultural spaces on the lower levels, publicly accessible areas and planted rooftops create a permeable interface between the building and the neighborhood.
The interior visualization translates this programmatic openness into a clear spatial image. Rather than a conventional high-rise lobby, it presents a multilevel urban interior shaped by daylight, planting and social encounters.
Living in the High-Rise Cluster
Seen from Jürgen-Ponto-Platz, the residential tower of approximately 60 meters comes to the foreground. Its articulation mediates between the historic Neckar Villas, the shared base and the considerably taller office towers around it.
The perspective makes this stepped composition legible at eye level. Everyday life, a distinct address and human scale take precedence, while the office tower remains present as part of the larger ensemble.
In Dialogue with the Skyline
The view from Taunusanlage presents the office tower as a new element in Frankfurt’s skyline. Its slender silhouette and the subtle offset between the two towers create a distinctive identity without overpowering the existing high-rise cluster.
Coordinated lighting conditions, viewpoints and scales created a consistent image series for the jury’s assessment. The design by Ferdinand Heide Architects was awarded first prize in December 2025.
